An elderly mother and her two daughters have been found dead inside a Gold Coast apartment in a suspected triple suicide.
The bodies of the three women were discovered at a home in the exclusive community of Ephraim Island just after 3pm on Tuesday.
The husband of one of the daughters had gone shopping and returned to the property when he made the gruesome discovery.
Police were called to the home where they found the 78-year-old and her daughters, aged 54 and 53.
‘[The husband] in a distraught state,’ Queensland Police’s Jim Plowman said.
‘But in that he’s providing us with a lot of information, including some of the phone text messages backwards and forwards between relevant parties.’
‘It was fairly obvious how the deaths occurred which leads to the conclusion that it is not suspicious.’
The private residence, which is 30 minutes north of the Gold Coast, is a lavish man-made island popular with retirees.
A three-bedroom home on the same street where the tragedy took place is currently on the market for well over $2.5 million.
In a statement, paramedics said they did not ‘need to treat anyone’ when they got to the unit.
Emergency services remain at the scene.
More to come.
